How G & G Began
The birth of Garret & Garage came about in our loft directly above the garage. By definition, a garret is a room situated underneath the roof. Historically, inhabited by artist in search of affordable housing. Many a poet or painter have procured their lives work in such a space. Our loft became our think tank and the garage coexisted as the studio where ideas came to life. On late nights our wire fox terrier, Cody, enthusiastically kept us company. If Cody could take on a human form he would smoke a pipe. Hence, our logo was created! Subsequently our brand stands for originality, handsomeness, and getting the job done.
Meet the Principals
Beatrice Novoa
Raised in Madrid by Cuban parents, Beatrice’s first inspiration came from exploring the House of Balenciaga with her mother and strolling the Museo del Prado with her father. Beatrice has extensive knowledge of different aspects of design from fashion to furniture. She studied fashion in Paris, with Thierry Mugler. Transplanted to New York, she worked with Seventh Avenue designers such as Calvin Klein and Geoffrey Beene, and was invited to join the Couture House of Carolina Herrera. She received a MFA in Visual Design, and from there went on to create her own line of furniture with generational old ateliers in Florence, Italy. Returning to Miami, Beatrice co-founded NK, a trailblazing furniture gallery featuring limited edition American made furniture in the likes of Godley and Schwan and Wendell Castle’s proteges. NK also produced its own line of furniture, including commissions for Cristofle of Paris and Barneys New York.
Kim Higgins
Reared in the Sandhills, an iconic ranch area in the plains of the Midwest. Kim's early years were set to a classic Americana backdrop: vignettes of stetsons, saddles, travel bars, and soaring in a Cessna to check cattle. Currently a design and trade liaison for RH, Kim has a substantial background in the entertainment and design industry. Film work is comprised of Royal Tenenbaums, Ocean’s Eleven, the Barbara Walter’s Academy Award Specials, and others. Design houses include Emmerson Troop, Rituals, Bardeaux Mobilier, and more. Kim has worked with clients from Switzerland, England, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Mainland China. Projects include Nate Berkus, Ralph Lauren, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jean Mathison-William Haines Archives, and The Sarasota School of Architecture. She holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship and a BS in Psychology.
Garret & Garage mixing of aesthetics from different cultures has an effect that is far more complex, exciting, and idiosyncratic than a simple meditation between urban and rural.
